South Walton’s Brandman Breaks Career Assist Record Against 6A Power Gulf Breeze
SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. – September 15, 2025 – South Walton battled 6A powerhouse Gulf Breeze for the second time in a week, falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-23) on Monday night. While the Dolphins claimed the sweep, the night belonged to junior setter Evelyn Brandman, who surpassed the South Walton career assists record.
Brandman distributed 28 assists and added 10 digs, pushing her career total past 1,420 assists to set a new program mark. Her consistency and command of the offense were on display against one of Florida’s elite programs. Gulf Breeze reached the 6A state championship match last season, finishing as the state runner-up.
Junior outside hitter Maci Jones powered the attack with 18 kills, while senior middle blocker Jordyn Swift added nine kills and two blocks. Defensively, senior libero Kamryn Garcia anchored the floor with 28 digs and steady serve receive.
As a team, the Seahawks finished with 34 kills, 28 assists, 58 digs, and four aces. South Walton nearly extended the match in the third set, pushing Gulf Breeze to the brink in a competitive closing frame.
The loss moves South Walton to 3-6 overall, with every setback coming against larger-classification, playoff-caliber opponents. The Seahawks’ opening slate has included 5A state champion Chiles, 5A state runner-up Beachside, perennial 5A power Mosley, 6A contender Niceville, and now back-to-back matchups with Gulf Breeze. The rigorous schedule continues to sharpen South Walton as the 4A district campaign approaches.
