Beachside Takes Tri-Match Finale from South Walton
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – August 23, 2025 – South Walton battled 5A opponent Beachside throughout four competitive sets before falling 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 15-25) in the finale of a tri-match format at Chiles High School.
South Walton's offensive attack was led by multiple contributors, with junior outside hitter Maci Jones recording 15 kills on 39 swings for a .308 hitting percentage, senior middle blocker Jordyn Swift adding 8 kills on 22 attacks with a .273 hitting percentage, and senior outside hitter Ella Driggers contributing 4 kills. Junior setter Evelyn Brandman distributed 25 assists on 74 attempts to orchestrate the balanced offensive effort.
Senior libero Kamryn Garcia anchored the defense with 11 digs, while junior defensive specialist Lindsay McMahan added 5 digs. Senior outside hitter Ella Driggers recorded 4 kills and contributed defensively, and junior middle blocker Laurali Douglass provided 3 kills and 3 blocks to support the middle attack.
South Walton opened strong by taking the first set 25-22, showing they could compete with the talented Barracudas. Beachside responded with quality play to win the second set 22-25, before taking control in the third and fourth sets 18-25 and 15-25.
South Walton demonstrated growth and competitive fight against quality 5A opposition in both matches of the tri-match. The experience of facing the defending state champion Chiles and state runner-up Beachside provided valuable preparation as the Seahawks continue to build toward district competition.
The results move South Walton to 1-2 on the young season after the challenging tri-match format against quality 5A competition. The Seahawks will next face 6A opponent Niceville.
